High Deductible Reimbursement Plan
Why Choose a High Deductible Plan?

All group types and sizes can benefit from the high deductible plan. If you have a large group of retirees that are currently on a self-funded plan whether private/public sector and offer them Seniors Choice with a $1,000 deductible obviously it can substantially lower the out of pocket monthly cost to the employer/Retiree. By choosing the appropriate deductible for their medical needs the employer and member can better manage their healthcare dollars. Seniors Choice has a solution for managing the high deductible options so members don't feel the financial burden of the entire deductible.

What is the Solution? "The Seniors Choice High Deductible Reimbursement Plan"

In this scenario you could offer them what we call "Deductible Reimbursement Plan". The employer would have an option to fund the high deductible either 100% or down to whatever deductible amount they choose as low as a $0 deductible option.

For example if an employer chooses the $2,500 deductible but wants the members to pay only the first $100 then the employer can fund the remaining $2,400:

High Deductible
Chosen
Deductible Offered to Members Deductible Reimbursement Plan Employer Funding Per Year Per Employee
$2,500 $100 $2,400 $2,400

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
What is a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)?

An HRA is an IRS regulated, employer-funded benefit plan that reimburses employees for certain medical care expenses. Reimbursements made through an HRA are entirely free of federal, state and FICA taxes.

How does an HRA work?

An HRA is a reimbursement account provided and funded by your employer. Deposits are made to the HRA by your employer on a pre-determined schedule. You may access the account to pay for qualified medical expenses.

How do I contribute to my HRA?

Only your employer may contribute to an HRA. Your employer designates a dollar amount to be placed in the account on a pre-determined schedule. You may track the balance on myGilsbar.com.

What happens to the money in my HRA at the end of the year?

Funds remaining in your HRA at the end of the plan year may be rolled over to the next year; your employer will designate the amount eligible to be carried over.

How do I pay for a doctor's visit or prescriptions with my HRA?

Depending on your employer's plan design there are two methods for paying medical expenses and receiving HRA reimbursements:

(1) If you elect auto-reimbursement, pay your normal copay, doctor's charge or prescription expense. The claim will be filed with Gilsbar and any out-of-pocket expenses are automatically submitted to your HRA for reimbursement. Gilsbar's AutoEOB means faster HRA claims turn-around and less time you spend with money out of your pocket! In order to qualify for AutoEOB, Gilsbar insurance must be the only insurance used for you and your family.
(2) Pay your normal copay, doctor's charge or prescription expense. Keep your receipt from the visit. You will send Gilsbar a copy of your receipt with your HRA claim form.
Can I view my HRA balances online?

Yes! Visit myGilsbar.com and login to access claims information and HRA balances online. Once you are logged in, select the Reimbursement Accounts link to view your account balances.

What is Automatic EOB Submission for Unreimbursed Medical Claims only?

Gilsbar offers you the opportunity to have a copy of your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) sent directly to Gilsbar for automatic reimbursement of qualifying expenses. In order to qualify for the automatic reimbursement (AutoEOB), Gilsbar Insurance must be the only insurance used for your entire family. This is because you are only eligible to file claims on "out-of-pocket" expenses. If you or a family member has secondary insurance, then Gilsbar's EOB will not reflect the "true" out-of-pocket expense.

If you would like to participate in the AutoEOB program, please complete the appropriate form and return to Gilsbar as indicated.

How do I file a claim manually?

Once you incur an eligible expense, you may submit a claim form and proof of expense to Gilsbar to receive reimbursement from your HRA account.
